June 27, 2005 RIVIX, LLC -------------------------------------------------------------- RiverTools 3.0, Service Pack 3 Release Notes -------------------------------------------------------------- Introduction: We very much appreciate receiving information from our customers regarding bugs and requests for new features. If you think you have discovered a bug, please send e-mail to support@rivix.com and describe the problem in as much detail as possible. Service Packs with fixed bugs and new features are released periodically on our Downloads page at www.rivix.com. --------------------------------------------------------------- New Features: (1) Added a Tools menu to windows created by the Display > Grid Sequence dialog that includes new Time Profile, Line Profile and Animated Profile tools. The Time Profile tool can plot how grid values for a selected pixel change over time using values in an RTS (RiverTools Sequence) file. For example, this tool can be used to create hydrographs from an RTS file that contains spatial discharge values. The Animated Profile tool lets you select a streamline by clicking in the display window, in the same manner as the standard Channel Profile tool. Values in the current frame of the RTS file are then plotted as a function of distance along this streamline. You can also plot the profiles for all subsequent frames as an animation. As an example, this can be used to animate flood waves moving downstream, as when the RTS file contains spatial discharge values from a hydrologic model. Several options are included in the Options menu. (2) Added "Save as AVI Movie" option to the Options menu of the Display > Grid Sequence dialog and to the Options menu of the Animated Profile tool. This allows animations to be saved in AVI (Windows Video) format. (3) Improvements to the Display > Function dialog, including the ability to specify xmin, xmax, ymin, & ymax. (4) Added the Select Grid entry to the Options menu of the Line Profile tool's window. This option already existed for the Channel Profile tool. (5) Improved the XObjView tool in the Tools menu. (6) Added the ability to specify a vertical exaggeration factor (Z Scale Factor) in the Relief Zoom tool. (7) Added 2 new tool window cursor types, including Circle Only and Cross Only. These are accessed via the File > Set Preferences dialog, in the Window Tools panel. Their size depends on the array sizes in the same panel. --------------------------------------------------------------- Fixed Bugs: (1) Fixed a bug that affected flow grids created for DEMs with predominantly negative elevation values, as is common for Mars MOLA DEMs and bathymetric DEMs. This bug caused depressions to be "over-filled" so that flow directions were not always accurate. (2) Fixed a bug that caused contributing areas computed via the Mass Flux method to be set to NaN in some flat valley bottoms. (3) Fixed a bug that prevented the use of blank spaces in some RiverTools file and folder names. (4) Fixed a bug that required byte order to be specifed in the header of imported ARC Gridded ASCII files in order for their RTI files to be correct. (5) Fixed a bug in the Value Zoom dialog that prevented jumping to the specified X and Y coordinates in some cases. Expanded this "Jump" feature to handle more coordinate types. (6) Fixed a bug that prevented the Save Window option from working for DEM Patching Preview windows created with the Prepare > Patch RTG DEMs dialog. (7) Fixed a bug such that DEMs in GeoTIFF format with a data type of unsigned integer did not import correctly. (8) Fixed a bug that affected creation of Data Summary tables (based on Horton-Strahler order) when the order of the pruned network exceeded 11. (9) Fixed a bug such that clicking on the Help button of the Extract > Finite Difference Grid dialogs caused RiverTools to lock up. (10) Fixed a bug in the Display > Masked Region dialog that prevented color from being set correctly with the "Use a single color" option. (11) Fixed a bug that caused the Display > Map Projection Info dialog to lock up on Macs when certain droplist combinations were attempted.
